Giving hope to walls everywhere

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

First, my disclaimer. *Please excuse the terrible quality of these photos! That’s what I get when trying to take product photos during a rainy, dreary day. (Not to mention, I am NOT a product photographer!)

So many clients have trouble choosing photos for their walls. At some point everyone was tricked into thinking that an 8×10 is BIG. Actually, in the portrait world, an 8×10 is tiny. I challenge you to look at your walls and think, “I can put a 20×30 canvas wrap there!” Believe me, you will be glad you did. And you will wonder why you didn’t think of putting up something that large before now.

A large portrait of your child is more than just a photo, it’s a work of art. You will never tire of gazing at it lovingly, and all of your visitors will ooh and aah over how gorgeous your family looks hanging on the wall on that 20×30 canvas.

In case you still aren’t sold on the idea of large photos as artwork, here are a few size comparisons to help you visualize the sizing. These were taken on the mantle over my fireplace.

Look at this poor little guy. He is so tiny on this mantle.

Many people are stuck on 8x10s as their photo size of choice for their walls. This looks so little over the fireplace. Be brave…think bigger!

This is a little better. Matted 8x10s can have a bigger impact if you used more than one of them on a mantle/wall in a creative way.

Some size comparisons. I absolutely LOVE the framed photo on the left. It’s an 8×12 matted to a 12×16 plus the frame. Getting warmer…a few of those over the fireplace = awesome!

More size comparisons. Are you rethinking that 8×10 for the wall yet?

Four sizes/styles together over the mantle. Look how miniature that 5×7 looks! I definitely can’t deny how much I love how the framed and matted 8×12 looks.

Lots of wall space? If you want to be brave and go bigger than you ever thought you would, go for the 24×36 canvas gallery wrap. It will look amazing! (I don’t have a portrait photo in this size right now. This is from my trip to California last year.)
